OMG! This Johnny Depp Surprise Appearance Will Go Down In History. See All The Photos Here
Johnny Depp surprising fans dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge is exactly why we’re obsessed with him.

Comic-Con crowds expect surprise guests. They don't expect Johnny Depp to quietly walk into the room as Ebenezer Scrooge.

That was the scene at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Depp made an unannounced appearance at the Ebenezer's Office activation completely in character from his upcoming film Ebenezer. Hidden beneath Victorian-era costume and makeup (a nice touch), the actor greeted fans before heading to Hall H to unveil a brand-new trailer for director Ti West's reimagining of the Charles Dickens classic.
It's the kind of Comic-Con moment that instantly becomes part of convention lore—not because it was loud, but because everyone in the room realized they were witnessing something they hadn't seen coming.

The new footage offers another glimpse at Ebenezer, which promises "The name you know. The story you don't." Rather than retelling A Christmas Carol beat for beat, the film takes the familiar Scrooge mythology in a darker direction under West's signature style. Depp leads a cast that also includes Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen.

Comic-Con has never been short on blockbuster reveals, but star appearances only land when they feel earned. Depp committing fully to the character—instead of simply showing up to wave at the audience—gave Ebenezer exactly the kind of memorable launch studios hope Hall H can still deliver.

Fans won't have to wait much longer to see Depp's full transformation when Ebenezer arrives exclusively in theaters on November 13, 2026.
