Let me hold your hand when I say this…It was time. Though many are still utterly devastated. Which side are you on?

Following Super Bowl Night on Dancing With the Stars, the people's dancer, Guillermo and his pro, Whitney Carson, have officially been eliminated from the competition. Week after week the internet has been divided yet united with one question: How is Guillermo still here? While other contestants seem to be improving in technique, delivering showstopping performances week after week, Guillermo was…also there!

While his technique was far from being the best, this isn’t to say that he’s been giving us nothing in the competition. On the contrary, some would say he was putting the work in where it actually mattered: fan service.

What he lacked in footwork he made up for in comedy and a positive message of love, rallying fans to vote week after week. This left viewers equal parts entertained and annoyed. At this point, his continued presence in the competition had become a storyline of its own.

And if your social media feed looks anything like mine, you've probably seen both sides of the debate:

And honestly, the confusion was understandable to a degree. Every week Guillermo survived, another contestant's elimination left viewers wondering whether dancing ability even mattered anymore.

But while one side of the internet was ready to see him go, another was determined to keep him around.

At the end of the day, you vote for your favorite contestant on the show. Though it feels unfair to see contestants that get higher scores get booted early into the competition other contestants shouldn't be attacked for having the bigger fanbase. He was doing it for the people! They were enjoying the personality, and the sheer entertainment of watching him defy expectations every week.

Guillermo's unlikely run had long-time friend, Jimmy Kimmel dedicate a segment to his Dancing With the Stars journey, poking fun at his continued survival despite the criticism surrounding his dancing.

But every underdog story has to end somewhere.

Guillermo has finally been eliminated, bringing an end to a run that had fans laughing, arguing and tuning in to see whether he would somehow survive another week. For viewers who had been questioning his place in the competition, the result may feel like a long-awaited resolution. For his supporters, it's the end of a genuinely entertaining ride.
