Molly Shannon Swings Into Action in Will Ferrell’s Golf Comedy

Will Ferrell is preparing to take his swing into scripted TV, and he’s bringing longtime collaborator Molly Shannon along for the ride. Netflix recently confirmed that Shannon has joined the cast of its upcoming Untitled Will Ferrell Golf Series—a 10-episode comedy where Ferrell plays a fictional golf legend, and Shannon portrays his brash (and occasionally potty‑mouthed) ex-wife, Stacy. 

A Reunion Five Sketches (and Many Films) in the Making

This isn’t the first reunion of these Saturday Night Live alums: both joined SNL in the mid-1990s and appeared in beloved sketches such as “Dog Show” and “Dr. Beaman’s Office.” Their chemistry carried over into films like Superstar, A Night at the Roxbury, and Talladega Nights.

The series marks Ferrell’s first full TV comedy run. He headlines the series as a larger-than-life golf star, while Shannon’s Stacy offers both comedic foil and emotional grounding. Molly Shannon has long been a comedic force—from her breakout SNL characters (Mary Katherine Gallagher, Sally O’Malley) to acclaimed roles in Only Murders in the Building, The Other Two, The White Lotus, and more. Her work earned her both Emmy and SAG Ensemble nods, and her recent film and TV slate includes projects like Driver’s Ed, People We Meet on Vacation, and Balls Up.
